The Food Network's Alton Brown moderated a thought-provoking and probing conversation focused on how we can provide good food for all in Georgia. Speakers included:

  • Anthony Geraci, Baltimore City Schools, the nutrition director that has created a successful district wide farm to school program that has provided jobs for Maryland farmers, organic food for school kids, and saved the school system millions of dollars in the process.
  • Yael Lehman of The Food Trust, a non-profit increasing access to fresh, healthy food in low- income communities.

New cafeteria offerings – “Fast ‘n Fresh” PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 14 August 2010 00:27

Decatur students are embracing changes in the school cafeteria this year!    At Renfroe and Decatur High, in addition to the traditional line, there is a new cafeteria line called “Fast ‘n Fresh” including a salad bar, a sandwich station, and other fast and healthy items.  This line replaces the “a la carte” line at Decatur High (where nachos, fries and other less healthy items were previously sold).  Fries, ice cream and cookies will be sold on Fridays only.

The Farm to School “Produce of the Month” kicks off with fresh, locally grown watermelon at all CSD schools during the month of August.  Students should look for the “Try it” signs in the cafeteria indicating Farm to School menu items.  All schools will also begin serving more vegetarian entrees.

For the August menu, please visit the CSD School Nutrition site:  http://www.csdecatur.net/nutrition/
