Our Community

The Decatur Farm to School initiative is pleased to have formal partners who are integral to this effort.   Each plays a different role in the initiative and we have listed a short description of partners with contact information below.  Please let us know if you are interested in becoming a partner and how you can help!

Georgia Organics is a member supported non-profit organization working to integrate healthy, sustainable and locally grown food into the lives of all Georgians.

Georgia Organics envisions sustainable, organic and local food transforming our communities to be more healthy, secure and economically-viable. Through innovative networks of sustainable family farms, gardens and businesses, all Georgians have access to nutritious, locally-grown foods via schools, institutions, work places, grocery stores, markets and neighborhoods. Together, growers, consumers, rural counties, and urban communities will unite to embrace the health and heritage of our land and people through the cultivation and celebration of food.

Oakhurst Community Garden

The Oakhurst Community Garden Project (OCGP) actively engages youth, families, and individuals in their environment, health, and community through organized programs, classes, and events that develop creative skills in sustainable urban living, organic gardening, health and nutrition. The OCGP serves as community garden, nature center, neighborhood meeting space, and wildlife habitat that is open for all to experience the potential of urban greenspace. The Garden is a model that provides the resources for people to take home and apply the lessons they learn here in other arenas of their lives.

The Decatur Education Foundation works to help Decatur youth realize their full potential,

not only in the classroom but also through learning experiences that contribute to personal development. We do this by generating financial support from individuals and organizations, awarding grants and administering scholarships, and engaging the community to contribute their time and talents to activities that ultimately benefit Decatur's youth. As an independent non-profit enterprise, DEF fills a unique role in our community.
